The design proposal aims to enhance the historical ensemble—formed by Förster’s neoclassical pavilion (1874) and Ohmann’s Art Nouveau extension (1912)—by reinterpreting the original spatial logic without resorting to historicist reconstruction. The interior layout is re-organized to evoke the historical structure: the Ohmann Hall becomes a dining and event space, while the current bar area is transformed into a café and lounge, featuring walnut panelling, integrated seating, and contemporary references to the Viennese coffeehouse tradition.
A key element of the proposal is a new glazed pavilion, lightweight and set back from the historic façade, conceived as a winter-garden-like structure that can fully open towards the terrace. With staggered roof planes, transparent façades, and patinated bronze surfaces, the pavilion establishes a respectful dialogue with the existing building while remaining clearly contemporary.
The redesign of the outdoor areas further improves the connection with the promenade through new level adjustments, stairways, and contemporary interpretations of balustrade elements.
