Born in Vienna in 1962, Italian architect based in Merano. He completed his PhD in Venice in 1990 under the supervision of Vittorio Gregotti and Bernardo Secchi.
Since establishing his independent practice in 1992, his work has encompassed a wide range of themes, with a particular focus on the revitalization of historic buildings (both listed and non-listed), winery design, interior and exhibition design, new constructions, and public space design. This diversity of experience fosters synergetic connections between different project types and thematic areas.
Selected major projects include: the redevelopment of the South Tyrol Museum at Tyrol Castle (1997–2003/2013), the restoration and extension of the Franzensfeste Fortress (2005–2019), the exhibition design for Palais Mamming Museum in Merano, the redesign of the Egyptian collection at Castello Sforzesco in Milan (currently under completion), the redevelopment of the Abbey Square at Neustift Monastery in Vahrn (2006–2009), and the renovation and extension of the Nals Margreid Winery in Nals (2007–2011/2016–2019), as well as numerous new buildings, renovations, and extensions for educational facilities, wineries, residential and sports buildings, and landscape and open-space projects.
He regularly serves as a guest lecturer and jury member for national and international architecture awards and competitions. He has taught at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg in 2014, at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Innsbruck from 2012 to 2023 (design studio “Building within Existing Contexts” at the Institute of Architectural History and Conservation), and at the Mozarteum University Salzburg from 2018 to 2021 (exhibition design at the Institute for Stage and Costume Design, Film and Exhibition Architecture). In 2016 he was Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano (Mantua campus), and in 2018 and 2019 he taught for YAC in Bologna.
His work has been widely published, exhibited, and awarded, including: Premio Oderzo (1998, 2010), “Menzione d’onore – Architetto italiano” for work in existing contexts (2017), South Tyrolean Architecture Award (2009, 2013, 2019), Premio Dedalo Minosse (2008, 2011), Best Architects Award (Gold 2012, 2015), Premio Architetti Arco Alpino (2016), Architizer A+ Awards (2014), nomination for the BSI Swiss Architectural Award (2010), nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Award (2011), participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale (2010, 2012, 2018), and a solo exhibition at SKB (2016).
From 2017 to 2024 he was a member of the Provincial Advisory Board for Architectural Culture and Landscape of the Province of Trento; since 2022 he has been a member of the Advisory Board for Design of the State of Tyrol.
